Clickingmad hit the design mark – first time

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

little acorns“Richard, the concept is fantastic, can’t fault it. It’s just what we wanted and perfectly fits the brief that we obviously put across very clearly.  We are very happy for you continue building the site from this concept.”

Well done to “our” Richard and thanks to Ian and Wendy from Little Acorns Montessori nursery for the kind comments.

Often we make several alterations to website designs until we nail it for the client. This is all part of the service. Our designer Richard will tell you that it’s a lot down to the brief he gets either from our account managers here or from the client. From my point of view a graphic designer should come with telepathy, surely they teach that at Universities nowadays? Lol.

Anyway well done Richard.

8 minutes for Google to index a blog?

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

I am not sure if this is a record but I may well claim it as one!

An existing client came in today to talk about iso 9001 and iso 14001. Well actually they came in to talk about us becoming iso qualified. We are going through the audit process now.

During the meeting the client – Interface NRM updated their new blog we have just provided them. This runs alongside their main website and is used a major SEO tool. (More on that later)

So Gavin updated his Blog at our office and then just by chance we did a search for the search term “iso 9001 and 14001 in Telford” not only was their main website number 1 in the natural listings. But they had another three entries on the first page, one of them being the blog they have just updated, 8 minutes earlier!

Now I know you will think it was luck more than judgement, but let’s face it Google has a massive task in keeping up to date with re indexing websites. For the Blog which by the way is only 1 month old, to be indexed and RANKED on the first page so quickly I think is a fantastic testimonial to the way in which we optimize our Blogs to be Google friendly.

If you would like Google to love your Blog as well. Give us a call, we have ways of making your Blog rather attractive to Google.

Shropshire Council Grant Scheme

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

I present here an extract from the Shropshire Council Website – The section that deals with grants for Small Businesses.

You can read the actual page on this link:

 http://www.shropshire.gov.uk/economicdevelopment.nsf/open/B8E5D737AF7866D48025765500304D1E

Extract Begins…

“Shropshire Business Enterprise Fund
Shropshire Council has set up the Shropshire Business Enterprise Fund to provide grants to businesses in response to the current difficulties faced by businesses in obtaining finance from banks and other lending institutions, and to counter the impact of the recession in Shropshire, including the high level of empty shops.

The Shropshire Business Enterprise Fund offers businesses distinct grant schemes:

Retail Business Grant
This scheme aims to encourage the uptake of small retail premises in Shropshire which have been vacant for 6 months or longer and have a rateable value of less than £15,000. Check rateable values by following the link to the Valuation Office Agency below.
The grant is in two parts and businesses can choose to apply for one or both:

a) Business Rate Relief
Eligible businesses can claim 50% off their business rates for 12 months, to a maximum of £1,000. The discount will be applied after any other discounts e.g. Small Business Rate Relief.

b) Capital expenditure
Up to £1,000 can be applied for to purchase capital items for the shop e.g. shop fittings, signage. 50% match is required from the business.

Business Start-Up/New Business Grant
This scheme is to support those starting up a new business which is not yet trading, or businesses which have been trading for less than 9 months. Capital grants of up to £1,500 are available for one off items including machinery, equipment, website construction. The scheme requires businesses to contribute a level of their own resources into the start-up.

Business Booster Grant
This scheme aims to promote business growth, sustainability and development of existing small Shropshire businesses that have traded for between 9 and 36 months. Capital grants of up to £5,000 are available. The scheme requires the business to contribute an amount of funding equal to the size of grant. This fund is open to small to medium sized businesses (enterprises) excluding retail businesses.

All of the grants are entirely discretionary, the emphasis being placed upon the business to demonstrate that the grant is needed. The grant process is competitive, meeting all the criteria is not a guarantee of receiving a grant offer.
Grants are for items that have not yet been purchased. Expenditure of grants can only be incurred once you have received a formal grant offer letter. The grant cannot be used for retrospective payments made prior to this.

Application process
Businesses interested in applying to the fund should familiarise themselves with the criteria attached. Please note that Start Up/New and Booster grants share one set of guidance notes and one application form.
Businesses that feel they could meet the criteria should contact the Business Support Officers on the numbers below for a discussion. Application forms will be sent to interested Businesses after the initial discussion has taken place.
Funding rounds run once a quarter. The deadline for the next round of funding is Monday 5th July 2010. Subsequent rounds will be closing in October 2010 and January 2011.”
