How far away is too far for us to build your new website?

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

I travelled to a lovely part of the UK today. East Anglia. The flat landscape, the rolling fields and today at least the lovely weather. This all served to make my trip very worthwhile and enjoyable. In the Internet we pretend that we can do business without ever meeting the client. I believe you can sell to consumers and even trade with business without meeting them But if you are in the Business to Business arena you need to meet.

Business to business dealing require trust, trust is earned through honestly and openness. Only by meeting us can you be assured of our skill and abilities At Clickingmad we do not hide behind the Internet, we regularly invite prospective clients to our offices to visit us and meet the team who will actually be working on their project. This is fairly unique in our business. Sometimes for good reason.

I have no problem with UK firms using overseas development and design companies to create their website, as long as they know that fact. We are aware that some UK agencies purport to do the design and development themselves but in reality the work is done far afield.

Not at Clickingmad. All work is carried by our in house teams of experts in their field.

So back to my visit today. We were one of 5 agencies asked to attend a meeting and present their wares. On the way back I was informed by the office that we have already been shortlisted to be one of 2 potential suppliers who will be visited by the client.

Is a round trip of 320 miles too far to travel? No, not when I am certain we can really help this client to not only attract their targeted customer but also engage with them and build their business as a result.

As with most businesses I need to trust my suppliers so I visit them to check them out and that’s why we “have the Internet but still travel” for the benefit of our own customers.

Our services discussed today include:

Messaging review
Brand strategy
Website graphic design
Open source content management system
Useability testing
Search engine optimisation
Hosting
Free training
Statistical Analysis
And free ongoing support

Remember all of these services are provided in house by our own teams. Not by faceless email addresses far away.

Long may face to face dealings be the way to do business. Despite technology.

Clickingmad hit the design mark – first time

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

little acorns“Richard, the concept is fantastic, can’t fault it. It’s just what we wanted and perfectly fits the brief that we obviously put across very clearly.  We are very happy for you continue building the site from this concept.”

Well done to “our” Richard and thanks to Ian and Wendy from Little Acorns Montessori nursery for the kind comments.

Often we make several alterations to website designs until we nail it for the client. This is all part of the service. Our designer Richard will tell you that it’s a lot down to the brief he gets either from our account managers here or from the client. From my point of view a graphic designer should come with telepathy, surely they teach that at Universities nowadays? Lol.

Anyway well done Richard.

Surely if you want to look outstanding this summer, then darling, get yourself down to Grace and Glory or of course buy online at www.grace-and-glory.co.uk.

Getting “on the buses”

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Endeavour Coaches run School buses throughout the Birmingham area and coach trips to all sorts of attractions here and abroad throughout the year. They have done this for some considerable time and their specially altered buses allow them to take wheels chairs with a rather nifty lift on the side.

Today Darren and I went to see them to discuss their website requirements.

We are pleased to announce that they are happy to move forward with Clickingmad with a simple new style and content management system. They send out about 20000 printed leaflets once every three months with all their trips listed and there are some good bargains as well. 5 days on the coast, half board and the coach trip included; from £249.00 – not bad, I hear you say.

With their new website they will able to use the built in mass mail feature to save sending them all by “snail mail” and their customers will be able to download each new brochure as soon as it has been created. This will save Endeavour Coaches lots in time and postage. Good eh?

Turning website design business down

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Why would I advise a client not to have a new website?

Its pretty unusual to be honest but not unheard of.

Today I went to see a bicycle shop who wanted to sell online. Their website the moment is very small, done by a friend, and looks pretty drab to be honest. So, they called us in to give them some ideas.

The first thing I noticed was that their current website does not reflect the either the size or the level of skill these guys possess in their field. Frankly they have a great shop, an Aladdins’ cave of everything bike. From toddler bikes right through “normal” road and mountain bikes through to £4000 downhill specials and every accessory and spare part you could think of. I have never seen so many bicycle pedals on display!

So, the first thing they asked for was to have an ecommerce website. I told them how much they would need to spend to ensure that the design and functionality gave the right impression to a buyer, i.e. high quality design, smooth transaction, related items cross selling, special offers and I also advised them that they would need to update their website very often to ensure that buyers were encouraged to return. Together with regular email offers and incentives they would be sure of not only attracting buyers, but also keeping them flocking back.

They were somewhat surprised by the price tag.

Having an ecommerce website is not a cheap option, not if you want it to work. Why waste money on something that won’t work? Cheap and nasty ecommerce websites are a real turn off to a potential web customer.

I actually suggested that the best way they could sell immediately would be to use Ebay and get a shop going in there.

The main thing they needed to do was to sort out their existing website. So my best advice was, a nice new website with a Content Management System, updating regularly after the free training we provide and then this all wrapped up in a design that truly reflected the business they are successfully running.

Another happy customer. Even if I did say, don’t buy it! I thank you.
